Is Reconciliation Impossible?

Anybody who has been keeping up with the news in Northern Ireland over the last few weeks would probably be inclined to say yes. With the Sinn Fein leader walking behind a xenophobic and anti-British banner in New York, people in a bar singing about their hatred of Roman Catholics, people in another bar chanting “up the Ra”, sectarian attacks against the Protestant community in Claudy, Co. Londonderry, and the disgraceful vandalism of a Protestant Church in Newry, Co. Down.

Reconciliation looks like it is far away as it ever was, especially if one looks at the attitude of certain people on social media; Irish republicans especially. For whilst Sinn Fein, the SDLP and other nationalist/republican groups like to present themselves as rational, reasonable, non-sectarian and intelligent, there are many Irish nationalists and republicans who do not attempt to hide their hatred and contempt for Loyalism, Unionism, the United Kingdom and anything that they perceive as being ‘other’.

The purpose of this blog post is to shine a spotlight onto the attitudes and opinions of some of those people. People who will never accept anything which is not Irish, Catholic and ‘gaelic’. People who use social media in the same way a pitbull uses it’s teeth and jaws. People who revel in the sectarian slaughter visited on the people of Ulster by republican murder gangs.

Unfortunately, we have hundreds of examples of the bitterness and hatred of such people. We ask you to read their vile comments and their idiotic rants and to ask yourself- is reconciliation really possible?

Of course there are bigots on both sides of the divide. Of course the people featured in this article do not represent all Irish republicans. However, they do represent a large section of that constituency. In all honesty, we rarely see naked sectarianism from Loyalists and Unionists online. We rarely encounter the kind of 19th century style racism that is so often demonstrated by Irish supremacists.

Perhaps we do not see it because we are not looking for it, or perhaps we do not see it because it is much less prevalent than the kind of hatred and vitriol one encounters from republicans on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis.

Please take the time to look at all of these images; imagine the sort of venom and bitterness that a person must feel within themselves to actually articulate this type of intolerance, xenophobia and hate. Then ask yourself if there is any hope for real, sincere, reconciliation and the resolution of legacy issues in Northern Ireland.

Can unreconstructed Irish republican bigots like these ever become valuable (and valued) members of a secular, democratic and pluralist society?

There is no place in the ‘new’ Northern Ireland for their toxic, narrow nationalism. There is no place in the 21st century for this sort of bigotry, sectarianism, racism and dehumanisation. If such people cannot, or will not, let go of their own toxic prejudice, then they must be left behind to wallow in their hatred in their own little vile, miserable echo-chamber.

It is interesting to note the exceedingly low level of education many of these people seem to have attained.

Interesting to see Irish supremacists use a term such as “mudderland” (sic), a term which neo-Nazis/white supremacists use to refer to the continent of Africa.

Another example of this kind of racist language being used by republicans is the use of the term “slurry skinned” which Ladfleg (South Belfast SF) use continually to refer to Belfast City councillor Ruth Patterson.

Another Irish republican/neo-Nazi ‘crossover’. A modified meme, depicting Celtic FC manager with a rifle and wearing military style uniform, which was originally a neo-Nazi/antisemitic meme widely used by the so-called ‘altright’.

Homophobic insults and breathtaking ignorance all in one tweet. Scarcely believable that such crass stupidity still exists in the 21st century.

Unfortunately this kind of abuse is all too common. Victims of Irish republican terrorism seem to attract more of this sort of poisonous bigotry than others. Perhaps republicans feel threatened by those who speak out on behalf of their murdered family members?

Usually republicans attempt to mask their ethno-religious bigotry by using derogatory terms like “immigrant”, “hun” or “planter” but sometimes their rage and bitterness gets the better of them and they revert to the type of language online that they generally only use at home, in pubs etc

This is the kind of dehumanising rhetoric used by Irish supremacist bigots. They dismiss the Protestant community as “stupid”, “uneducated” and even use the term “underprivileged” as an insult, ignoring the fact that they are unwittingly admitting that the ‘PUL’ community suffers social exclusion, deprivation and discrimination.

For some reason many republicans on social media deny being republicans. Despite the fact that their political opinion is obvious (Easter lily avatar etc)

(For the record, we have never murdered or raped anyone)

The irony of someone with a Liver bird, emblem of the city of Liverpool and of Liverpool FC, tweeting this kind of anti-British racism is apparently lost on Irish republicans.

More homophobic ranting, this time from a republican ‘parody’ account. There are at least a dozen of such accounts. None of which engage in any kind of satire or even any attempt at humour, instead using obscenity and school yard insults to attack Loyalist and Unionist elected representatives, victims of terrorism etc. The most notorious of these ‘parody’ accounts being Ladfleg, which is now (more or less) completely controlled by Sinn Fein.

Often, tweets by Irish republican extremists are almost unintelligible.

The use of the word “evil” and the comparing of Unionism to a “disease” or even to “cancer” is particularly curious. This would suggest a quasi religious aspect to the bigotry of such people.

The twitter user above is a favourite of Ladfleg and seems to comment on almost all of their tweets. It has been suggested that the account actually belongs to one of the people behind the Ladfleg account, who uses the @Cobblerz37 account to vent his spleen and say what he really thinks about Protestants.

More homophobic remarks and glorification of the “RA” (presumably the Provisional IRA?)

Outright genocidal rhetoric from someone who wished to see the Loyalist/Unionist community “exterminated”. Stalin, Mao, Hitler and Pol Pot would be proud!

This is a new low, even for @corkyhere, a well known republican oaf who uses someone else’s picture for his avatar.

Shinnerbots are usually blatantly obvious. No avatar, an obviously fake/bot generated username, fewer than a dozen followers etc etc

The disgusting fascism of Irish republicans. The last Queen of √Čire here telling another twitter user what their future will be and engaging in inflammatory racist language that would make Andrew Anglin blush!

@Irish_Ulster is a compulsive liar who, it has been suggested to us by a reliable source, has serious mental health issues. She is neither Irish nor male but is in fact a woman from the North-Eastern United States.

More dehumanising rhetoric from the usual suspects.

More homophobic insults, this time suggesting that Jamie Bryson has HIV/AIDS.

Ladfleg like to propagate the old PIRA/Sinn Fein myth that the UDR was merely a Loyalist paramilitary group in uniform. Ignoring the sacrifice of many Catholic UDR men murdered by Irish republican terrorists.

A rare admission that many Irish republicans support republican gangs involvement in the illegal drugs trade.

Comparing Loyalists and Unionists to rats is another staple of Irish supremacists.

evil”

Note that Ladfleg have never censured @cobblerz37, taken him to task for his overtly sectarian (and frankly deranged) replies to their tweets or even suggested he show some constraint.

I have no idea what the above even means.

The irony of that tweet (sent from Walthamstow, London)

Elaine believes the recent sectarian graffiti that was daubed across Claudy was done by fairies.

So, is reconciliation possible? From where I sit I’m sorry to say I don’t know anymore!

Peace & Good Will to All Men (except Prods)

A week from today it’ll be Christmas Eve. Unbelievable I know. Still, there will be peace on Earth & glad tidings to all. Won’t there? Well, no, there won’t. Sadly we live in Northern Ireland and we have to share our “wee country” with irish republicans, the majority of whom are vile, reprehensible, miserable & perpetually outraged. So, no peace & good will for the Loyalist/Unionist community.

You want me to give you a few examples? Are you sure? I must warn you that what you’re about to see will not be pleasant. You might need to get some eye bleach. Oh well, fair warning, you asked for it!

Meet “Derry Lad”. He’s a lovely wee fella, don’t you think? I wonder if he has any connection to another certain republican Twitter account?

He used to claim to be “cross community” lol. Almost as laughable as the time he said he was a Loyalist from East Belfast called Billy! Doesn’t even attempt to hide his hostility towards the “PUL” community anymore. Tut tut.

muh 800 years of Brit oppression”. Tragic really. Imagine being so stuck in the past & so bitter that you still get triggered by something that happened nearly a millennia ago! It’s almost as pathetic & hateful as…. as…. well, this-

Just take a minute or two to appreciate just how twisted, bitter & full of hate you have to be to get angry at an airport! An AIRPORT. And people like & retweet this toxic garbage. Mind boggling.

Above, “hilarious satire”. Apparently.

Then we have the master tacticians of the republican movement.

Gibraltar, the Falklands, the Isle of Wight, the Outer Hebrides, the Isle of Dogs- not British! Yup. You heard. Not British. Nuh uh. Nope. Can’t be. Chrissy says so.

I suppose when you have a favourite gif you just have to use it dozens of times. Every day. Maybe it’s a sign of intelligence?

Fghijk indeed. Wise words there. But let’s get back to the “lads”, here’s Derry Lad (or “LAD”?) again.

A nice, well mannered, peace loving chap, as I’m sure you’ll agree.

A bit more honest about his views than the other Lad but just as foul mouthed & intellectually challenged. See below for details –

Nice to see the English language being used with such respect & dedication to the unspoken rules of civilised discourse.

Back to Londonderry Boy….. err, sorry, Derry Lad & one of his wee mates, replying to a tweet from an elected representative about the erection of a fitting memorial to the dead of Belfast Blitz. Yes, that’s right, triggered by a memorial to civilians killed by Nazi Germany!

Superb bunch of “lads”. Wouldn’t it be just wonderful to have to share the dinner table with such eloquent, erudite, intelligent, well brought up, cheerful & not at all deranged people this Christmas?

On that note dear readers, adieu. Myself & my fellow “editorial staff” (see what we did there?) would like to wish our readers a very happy Christmas & a peaceful, prosperous 2019!

Somewhere over the rainbow!

Are you sitting comfortably? Nice & relaxed? Good. Then I’ll begin. You see, once upon a time there were a group of naughty little elves who called themselves ‘Irish republicans’. These mischievous imps kept trying to lure the niave & the innocent away from their homes & into a marvellous world of magic & unicorns known as ’32 County Irish Socialist Republic-land“. A wonderful place in which time stood still. Everyone was “cherished equally” & the coins had lovely representations of chickens & fishes on them.

Except that it wasn’t like that at all. Once ensnared by these gaelic ghouls their poor, unfortunate victims found that 32 County Irish Republic-land was really a harsh & violent place, full of hatred, vitriol & malice. Indeed, far from being a wondrous realm of rainbows & sugar-plums, it is, in fact, a dark & nightmarish place.

Yet still the Irish republican elves did their thing, weaving their magical tales of 32 County Irish Republic-land, or as they sometimes called it- “the kingdom of love & buttercups”. Do not be fooled dear reader! Don’t be taken in by their tales of treasure & easy living; love, magic & free golden harps for all. Your old Uncle Thursday has magic of his own. I have captured their fairy stories & rendered them into visual form!

Behold gentle reader- the honeyed words of these seductive succubuses. Their siren songs of peace, love & togetherness. Surely there have never been sweeter, more inviting words of love & tenderness-

And finally…..

Such sweet words of tenderness, carefully designed to lure the unwary. Do not fall for their tempting promises of utopia. Uncle Thursday will return next week with more carefully selected examples of their dark arts, till then dear reader……….. have a good night & please- don’t have nightmares.

Rebalancing Legacy- the Irish republican perspective

The “Legacy Battle”

Recently the Loyalist and wider Unionist community have been campaigning to bring some semblance of balance to the issue of the legacy of ‘The Troubles’. Loyalists and Unionists assert that Irish republicans/Irish supremacists have been busily engaged in a coordinated and concentrated effort to rewrite the history of the Ulster conflict- whitewashing Irish republican war-crimes, airbrushing out any reference to collusion between republican murder gangs and outside agencies, and generally trying to minimise the brutality and cruelty of Irish republican criminal gangs, especially PIRA/Sinn Fein.

Irish republicans strenuously deny any kind of historical revisionism or rewriting of history. That is a blatant and bare-faced lie, which this blog post and several more will prove, beyond any shadow of a doubt.

We will be using tweets, sent by Irish supremacists, to illustrate how these individuals a) are indeed attempting to rewrite the history of ‘The Troubles’, and b) that for reasons which will become clear at a later date, all of these individuals seem to be “singing from the same hymn sheet”. We had considered redacting the Twitter usernames of those whose tweets we will publish, however, these tweets were posted on a public forum and those responsible for authoring them should have no problem with them being seen on another public forum.

The ‘Examples’

The following are but a tiny fraction of some of the screenshots that we have taken over the past 5 weeks or so. They will prove ample illustration of the sort of attitudes held by Irish republicans and their peculiar, warped view of the history of Northern Ireland and, more specifically, the internecine conflict which ravaged our country between 1969 and the mid 1990’s.

You will no doubt notice the similarities in these tweets and in the type of Twitter user (or “bot”) that posted them. Enjoy and try not injure yourself laughing!

This is just a small snapshot, more will be posted soon. We believe that this is ample evidence, not only of the sheer bigotry, sectarianism and anti-British racism of Irish republican extremists, but also of their pathetic attempts to rewrite the history of Northern Ireland.

An Appeal to Our Readers

It’s Still Only Thursday on Twitter

Dear readers, recently we (the authors of this blog) took the decision to start a Twitter account linked to the blog. That decision, which was taken extremely reluctantly by my co-author, for very understandable reasons, has proved to be a prudent one. Initially it was our aim merely to promote this blog and communicate with a number of people with whom we wished to conduct interviews etc, however, we (or at least I) now recognise that we should utilise Twitter (and perhaps other social media) to challenge and expose the toxic, dehumanising rhetoric of Irish nationalists and republicans.

We Need Your Help

In order for us to be effective we need your help! This blog receives a lot of site traffic. Over 3,000 visitors to this blog in the past week alone. If even 1 out of every 3 of those visitors were to follow us on Twitter (@0nIyThursday) we could reach a far larger audience.

A small, relatively obscure Twitter account will be ineffective. In order for us to challenge the sectarian, hateful and immensely damaging narrative of toxic Irish nationalism we need a bigger following on social media. The tide is turning, people outside of Northern Ireland and outside of Loyalism are waking up to (and challenging) the poisonous and dehumanising message of Irish republican extremists, but we need to affect change more quickly, we need to spread our message to a much wider audience and we need your help to do it.

Please follow @0nIyThursday on Twitter, tweet a link to this article (or to your favourite article on the site) and please continue to visit and enjoy our articles. Thank you

We Are Back On Twitter

Well. Here we are. Back on Twitter (@0nIyThursday). We debated this for nearly three weeks but decided in the end that we would have to have some kind of social media presence in order to A) contact certain people about blog posts we have planned for the coming months, B) promote the blog to an even wider audience and C) keep up to date with what Northern Ireland was talking about online.

Facebook was ruled out early on, it’s a dying platform and it’s not that great for promoting a blog. Gab.ai was also considered but, honestly, it’s a small platform & although it’s growing quickly, we didn’t see it as being useful for our purposes. That really only left Twitter. Twitter has many drawbacks, it is notorious for it’s censorship, it is lousy with bots & trolls, it arbitrarily locks people out of their accounts etc but, at least for now, it will have to do.

So, if you’re on Twitter & you enjoy ISOT, give us a follow and/or send us a message. We look forward to a few lively discussions!
